An Electors Meeting has been called for the 16th September at 6.30pm at the Belmont Civic Centre.
The meeting is to discuss the lack of recording of council meetings and the need to have the meetings recorded and available free of charge to the residents. Some of our senior residents do not drive at night time, people with disabilities may not be able to have a carer in the evening, some people work nights and people with children may not have someone to help care for them so they can attend meetings.
Residents should be able to reference these meetings at a time that suits them. Written minutes to not give people the opportunity to hear the discussions and debates as to why certain things are adopted by council. For instance with rates going up again, the residents should be able to hear why and the debate that occurs. It is needed for transparency of the CoB. Many councils now live stream their meetings or at a minimum have recordings available to their residents. Belmont should be doing the same.
The contract for the CEO is also on the discussion. BRRAG asked for a copy of this contract back in April. The Local Government Act allowed for residents to have access to it. It was not forthcoming. A subsequent letter from the Department of Local Government advising we were able to get it, was sent to the CEO. It has not been forthcoming.
